Why coat the vehicle?

The shine gets noticed. The easier maintenance comes afterwards.

A freshly detailed car looks great on the day. The more useful question is how easy it will be to keep that finish looking good once the vehicle is back on Auckland roads.

Ceramic and graphene coatings are liquid protective treatments applied to properly prepared surfaces. Once cured, they leave a slick, water-repellent layer that enhances the finish and helps everyday contamination release more easily during careful washing.

They're well suited to owners who want the vehicle to hold a cleaner, sharper appearance without turning every regular wash into a full detail.

Before any coating goes on

The product is the final step, not the first

A coating is transparent. It won't hide swirl marks, oxidation, haze or poor previous polishing. In fact, extra gloss can make those defects easier to notice.

01

Thorough wash

The vehicle is properly cleaned before we start judging the condition of the paint.

02

Paint decontamination

Bonded contamination is dealt with so the coating isn't being applied over a dirty or compromised surface.

03

Paint inspection

We inspect the finish under appropriate lighting and identify swirls, haze, previous correction or other defects.

04

Correction only where it helps

A new vehicle may need very little. An older vehicle may benefit from paint enhancement or correction first. We don't add correction simply because a coating is being applied.

05

Application, curing & inspection

Once the surface is ready, the selected coating is applied, allowed to cure as required and checked before handover.

What coating actually helps with

Less about a magic barrier. More about a better surface.

A properly applied coating changes the way the exterior surface behaves. That's where most owners notice the practical difference.

01

Deeper gloss

A properly prepared and coated surface can look richer, sharper and more reflective.

02

Strong water behaviour

Water beads and moves differently across the coated surface, helping it shed water more effectively.

03

Easier regular washing

Road film and ordinary grime can be easier to remove when the coating is maintained with suitable washing methods.

04

Environmental resistance

The coating can help the surface resist everyday environmental contamination long enough for it to be cleaned away appropriately.

Worth knowing

A coating doesn't make paint damage-proof

Ceramic and graphene coatings can make the surface easier to maintain and provide useful resistance against environmental contamination, but they don't stop stone chips, deep scratches, accidents or damage caused by poor washing.

Water repellency doesn't mean the vehicle can no longer get water spots either. Minerals can still remain behind if water is left to dry on the surface, so normal maintenance still matters.

If stone chips are what you're worried about, start with PPF. Paint protection film provides a physical sacrificial layer. Coating and PPF solve different problems and can also be used together.

Ceramic or graphene?

Choose the coating, not the marketing claim

Both categories can produce excellent gloss, water behaviour and easier maintenance. The label on the bottle doesn't tell the whole story.

Ceramic Coating

Proven surface protection with a strong practical benefit.

Ceramic coatings are a strong option for owners wanting gloss, hydrophobic behaviour and an easier surface to maintain. The right product still depends on the vehicle, preparation and expected maintenance.

Graphene Coating

An advanced option — when the actual product makes sense.

Graphene-based systems can offer a slick, highly water-repellent finish, but graphene isn't automatically better simply because the name sounds newer. We compare the actual systems available.

We don't choose a coating by the biggest durability number on the box. Product formulation, paint preparation, application, curing, storage and ongoing care all affect how a coating performs. We'll explain the options available before you decide.

Choosing the right option

Start with the vehicle, not the product label

The right recommendation starts with how the vehicle is actually used. A garaged weekend car, an outdoor daily driver and a vehicle doing high motorway kilometres don't necessarily need the same thing.

We look at the condition of the paint, where the vehicle spends its time, how you wash it and what you expect from the finish. From there we can explain whether ceramic coating, graphene coating, PPF or a combination provides the most practical value.

✓ Current paint condition
✓ Daily driver or weekend vehicle
✓ Indoor or outdoor parking
✓ Washing and maintenance routine
✓ Surfaces you want protected
✓ The finish you want to achieve
Common questions

Before you book a coating

The questions worth answering before choosing between ceramic coating, graphene coating and PPF.

Not always. New vehicles can still arrive with transport residue, light swirl marks or dealership wash damage, so we inspect the paint first. If the finish is already in good condition, extensive correction may not be necessary.

Not automatically. The complete product formulation, preparation, application and aftercare matter more than the category name alone. We compare the actual coating systems available rather than treating graphene as the better choice in every situation.

No coating should be treated as scratch-proof protection. It can provide resistance against light environmental contamination and make cleaning easier, but it won't stop deep scratches or stone chips. PPF is the better option when physical impact protection is the priority.

Yes, when the selected coating is suitable for the film. Coating over PPF can support gloss, water behaviour and easier maintenance, while the film remains responsible for the physical paint protection.

No coating makes the vehicle immune to mineral deposits. Strong water repellency can help water move off the surface, but water that is allowed to dry can still leave minerals behind. Proper washing and drying remain important.

Yes, provided the surfaces are suitable. Older paint often benefits from decontamination, paint enhancement or correction before coating. The aim is to improve the finish first, then protect a result that's worth keeping.

Use careful washing methods, suitable products and remove contamination rather than leaving it on the paint for long periods. We provide aftercare advice based on the coating system applied to your vehicle.
