Why PPF

Protect the areas that take the most punishment

The first stone chip always seems to stand out. It might happen on the motorway, behind a truck or during an ordinary drive across Auckland. PPF is for owners who would rather protect vulnerable paintwork before those small marks start to add up.

Paint protection film is a clear automotive film fitted over prepared paint. It puts a physical layer between the paint and common road wear such as stone chips, road debris and light abrasion.

That is the main difference between PPF and a ceramic or graphene coating. A coating changes how the surface behaves. PPF gives the paint an additional physical barrier.

How much of the vehicle should you protect?

Not every vehicle needs full-body PPF. The right amount depends on where you drive, how you use the vehicle, how long you plan to keep it and which panels are most exposed.

01

Selected areas

Protect smaller high-contact areas such as door cups, bumper sections, luggage edges and other vulnerable points.

02

Front bumper

Focus protection on one of the first areas to meet road debris without covering the complete front of the vehicle.

03

Partial front

Cover key leading edges and high-impact areas where stone chips and everyday motorway wear are more likely.

04

Complete front

Typically covers the front bumper, bonnet, front guards and mirrors for more complete protection of the vehicle's leading end.

05

Custom panels

Choose particular panels or vulnerable areas where additional paint protection makes sense for your vehicle.

06

Full vehicle PPF

More extensive protection for owners wanting film across substantially more of the vehicle's painted exterior.

Before the job is booked, we explain what is being covered and what isn't. That includes the panels involved and, where relevant, how edges or joins are likely to be finished.

Before the film goes on

The finish starts with the paint underneath

PPF follows the surface below it. If the paint already has contamination, wash marks, touch-ups or previous repairs, those can affect the final result.

01

We look at the paint first

The vehicle is checked so we can identify existing defects, repairs or areas that may need attention before installation.

02

Cleaning and decontamination

The surface needs to be properly cleaned and prepared so contamination is not trapped underneath the film.

03

Correction where it makes sense

If the existing finish would benefit from correction, we can discuss that before covering the paint.

04

New cars are checked as well

New doesn't always mean perfect. Transport residue, light washing marks and dealership preparation defects can sometimes already be present.

What to expect

PPF is protection, not armour

When physical road wear is the concern, PPF is the strongest paint-protection option we offer. That doesn't mean the vehicle becomes impossible to damage.

A heavy impact, sharp object, accident or poor washing method can still damage the film and, in some cases, the paint underneath it. How the film looks and performs also depends on the film selected, the condition of the vehicle, installation and ongoing care.

We would rather explain that properly before the job. We'll talk you through the coverage, likely finish and aftercare so you know what the film is there to do and what it can't promise.

PPF or ceramic coating?

They do different jobs

The better choice comes down to what you want to protect the vehicle from. In some cases, using both makes more sense than choosing between them.

Paint Protection Film

PPF takes the impact.

Choose PPF when stone chips, road debris and light physical abrasion are the main concern. It gives vulnerable paintwork an extra physical layer of protection.

Ceramic / Graphene

Coating makes the surface easier to live with.

Ceramic and graphene coatings are better suited when you want stronger gloss, water repellency and easier regular washing and maintenance.

+

You can also combine them. PPF can take care of the high-impact areas while ceramic or graphene coating supports gloss and easier cleaning across the rest of the vehicle.

Common questions

Before you book PPF

A few of the things worth knowing before deciding how much paint protection film is right for your vehicle.

Good-quality PPF is intended to remain discreet, but the finished appearance depends on the film, panel shape, amount of coverage and installation method. Where seams or edges may be noticeable, we'll explain that beforehand.

Yes. The paint should be checked first for contamination, existing defects, touch-up work and previous repairs. Depending on its condition, some preparation or paint correction may be worthwhile before installing the film.

No. PPF acts as a sacrificial protective layer and can reduce damage from common road impacts and light abrasion, but a severe enough impact can still damage the film or penetrate through to the panel underneath.

Professionally installed automotive film can generally be removed later. The result can depend on the age of the film, paint condition, previous repairs and how the vehicle has been stored and maintained.

If stone chips and physical road wear are your main concern, PPF is usually the more relevant option. If the priority is gloss, water behaviour and easier regular cleaning, ceramic or graphene coating may be more suitable. Many vehicles use both.
